There were many guesses about the gender, arrival date and size of the newest member of the Romaine Family, Ian Charles born Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 3:03am, but no one could have predicted the circumstances leading up to his arrival. We went to the hospital Friday morning for routine 30 minute monitoring, that turned into 2 ½ hours because Ian’s heart rate was very high in the 180s for a solid 1 ½ hours. After much debate and hesitation we agreed to be induced to ensure the health of our little one. With lots of hard work, encouraging support and translating, 12 hours later we were holding our precious but big, 9lbs 9oz 20 inches long, bundle of baby boy! Our experience was nothing like our previous one in the states, but the staff were all so kind, and we could not have done it without the translating and coaching of our teammate Lorena Templeton! One funny thing we will never forget is while Hannah was getting a very mild form of epidural, the nurse isolating Hannah’s shoulders received a cell phone call as Hannah was being injected, and felt obligated to answer and chat and laugh with her friend for a few minutes. Certainly made the moment lighter! Aren’t you glad God has His ways of making moments we feel so intimidated by humorous and insignificant, I know we are!
